The Beach

Ipanema Beach is what brings most people to this neighborhood. The water is clearer than Copacabana, the vibe is more relaxed, and the sunsets are spectacular. You're close to Posto 9, one of the best stretches of sand, where locals set up for the day.

Two blocks through the park and you're there in less than five minutes. When you head back, there's a wash station in the building basement to rinse sand off before going upstairs. If you want to see Copacabana too, it's about a 15-minute walk along the beach.

The Neighborhood

General Osório Square anchors everything around here. On Sundays, the square transforms into a hippie fair with vendors selling food, crafts, and local goods. On Tuesdays, there's a farmers' market where you can find tropical fruits, fresh vegetables, meats, and fish. During the rest of the week, it's a quiet park where neighbors gather.

There's a supermarket across the square, coffee shops on the corner, and three gyms within walking distance if you want to keep up your routine. The neighborhood feels like a place where people actually live, not just a tourist stop. You'll see the same faces at the corner cafe, families at the park, locals heading to the beach in the early morning.

Where to Eat

Boteco Belmonte sits right on the beach with a rooftop terrace. It's part of a Rio institution that's been around since 1952, and it's a good spot for sunset drinks and watching the beach scene wind down.

Garota de Ipanema is where Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim wrote "The Girl from Ipanema." The specialty here is picanha you cook yourself on a hot stone at your table. It's touristy, but the history makes it worth experiencing at least once.

There's wood-fired pizza around the corner, coffee and pastries one block up, and Galetos if you want grilled chicken with rice and beans. You have plenty of options, and most are close enough to walk to without planning.

Getting Around

The subway station across the street connects you to the rest of Rio. One stop gets you to Copacabana, a few more to downtown. Buses run constantly along the main avenues. Ubers arrive quickly in this neighborhood.

Most of what you'll want to do in Ipanema is walkable though. Beach, restaurants, shops, nightlife all sit within a few blocks of the apartment. You can base yourself here and explore Rio without worrying about transportation.

Heart of Ipanema

IPA Reve sits on General Osório Square, which puts you right in the center of Ipanema. The subway station is across the street, coffee shops line the corner, and restaurants fill the surrounding blocks. The beach is two blocks away, less than a five-minute walk through the park.

The apartment faces the mountains on the 10th floor, so it stays quiet even though you're surrounded by everything. Walk to what you need, then come back to a peaceful place above it all.
